I can still feel the sand between my toes. The light rain made the night’s temperature match the vibe of Jack Johnson’smusic: chilled. (At least more than usual in a sweltering mid-August.) The show wasn’t sold out at at Superpages.com Center, but it was more than crowded for a Tuesday night while crowds rocked to the Hawaiian surfer’s melodies.
Kansas may be a landlocked state, but for two hours on Monday night there was prime beachfront property in Bonner Springs. Surfer-songwriter Jack Johnson brought a mellow vibe that matched the cooler weather and gentle breeze. There were some empty seats in the middle section, but the lawn in back and area up front were both comfortably crowded.
Trib staffer Chris McDonald attended Jack Johnson’s Froday night show at Usana Amphitheatre, and here is his review: Laid back, chill, mellow. Did I miss any? All of these and more have been used to describe Jack Johnson and his music. As much as I wanted to avoid using these cliches, they fit.
A little show filled with laid-back tunes got the nearly sold out audience at the USANA Amphitheatre fired up Friday night. Hawaiian, surfer singer/songwriter Jack Johnson gave some huge waves of love when he and his band took to the stage.
Is the big oil spill old news by now? Not to Jack Johnson. It’s still a talking point. “I get in the water every day, I surg as much as I can, I have three kids, so when we get a moment we’re in there - I feel like I use it so much that I have a responsibility to be a steward of the ocean,” said Johnson, who recently donated $70,000 to relief efforts in the Gulf of Mexico region. “There’s going to be a lasting effect on that area, with wildlife and families and the water itself.”
