Jack Johnson delights fans in Irvine

Source: OC Register

Newsflash: Jack Johnson’s music isn’t just for surfers anymore.  Yes, he surfs. Yes, he plays ukulele. And, yes, there is probably another surf film in his future.  But Friday night’s show at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine reminded that Johnson is an exceptional singer, songwriter and guitarist whose talents transcend flip-flops and suntan oil ...

JJ Sleep Through The Static Tour (behind the scenes)

Aug 21, 2008

As Jack Johnson wraps up the final leg of his “Sleep Through The Static Tour” we wanted to take a moment to recognize some of our very talented friends whose imagery graced the LED visual display that provided the backdrop during the shows.

Thomas Campbell ... artist, filmmaker, photographer, skater, surfer, superpal and highly skilled doodler. Thomas has been a longtime friend of Brushfire and Jack and is the visionary behind the album cover images on both “In Between Dreams” and “Sleep Through the Static”. Thomas has also released a few surf films including “The Seedling”, “Sprout” (dvd/soundtrack available in the Brushfire Store) and coming soon, “The Present”. Thomas can also be seen in the recent released “Beautifiul Losers” documentary. (photos by Janella Fox)

Dave Homcy ... photographer, cinematographer, surfer, chef extraordinaire, jack look-a-like and super good pal. Dave Homcy has been contributing his stunning images to the Brushfire and Woodshed world for years.  He has shot photos of Jack, ALO, Zach Gill, Matt Costa and is regularly in the creative mix on many Brushfire Related projects and films. Just to name a few, he has worked on the films “Shelter”, “A Brokedown Melody” (dvd/soundtrack available in the Brushfire online store), “Jack Johnson- Live in Japan” and recently “Sliding Liberia” . (photos by Emmett Malloy)

Giles Dunning ... photographer, cinematographer, fashion icon and all around funny guy (with really awesome hair). Giles has been one of the key players behind the camera on quite a few Brushfire artist video shoots (as well as many other Malloy Brother directed projects including a few White Stripes videos). He has worked on “Jack Johnson and friends- Live at the Greek” and an upcoming documentary called “180 Degrees South”. (photo by Janella Fox)

The Rockstar Who Would Save the World

Strawberry shortcakes just might save the world, and that’s why Jack Johnson is spending the last Friday morning of July on his knees, picking the ripe red fruits from a green patch at Goleta’s Fairview Gardens. Surrounding the world-famous surfing rock star, UCSB alum, and sporadic Montecito resident are children gathering strawberries, including two towheaded boys of his own, but mostly kids from the garden’s summer farm camp ...

Guide to the Village Green

Aug 20, 2008

At most venues, the Jack Johnson Tour hosts a handful of regional nonprofits in addition to the four regular national/ international organizations. In Santa Barbara, where the community ties to Jack and company are strong, they’ve opened up their Village Green to 15 hometown nonprofits, including five from UCSB alone. Here’s a brief guide to whom you’ll find in the Village Green at Harder Stadium ...

Backstage with Green Rocker Jack Johnson

Aug 15, 2008

“It’s not everyday you get unfettered backstage access to a rock concert but my assignment for Focus Earth wasn’t to go backstage at an “everyday” anything. This is Jack Johnson, king of green rock and roll (though he is careful to point out that nothing about him is rock and roll, his music is of a different brand). It is evident from the moment he steps off his tour bus; no entourage, no mirrored sunglasses, no assistant with a clipboard running up to him to get approval on schedules. Jack just grooves off the bus in jeans and a t-shirt (and shoes he said he was only wearing because it was still wet out from the recent rains). He introduced himself to us with his trademark crooked, gracious smile and soft-spoken manner. No one unfamiliar with the man’s music would EVER suspect him of being a platinum selling star.”

Johnson kicks back, to his fans’ delight

Aug 07, 2008
Source: Boston.com

Credit Jack Johnson for knowing himself and his audience. His style of laid-back folk-rock might not be to everyone’s taste, but if you’re attuned to it, he can serve it up to you in spades. And he did exactly that at the Comcast Center on Wednesday, dishing out nearly two hours of beachcomber vibes that did a lot to counteract the cool, cloudy evening ...

JACK JOHNSON - Limited Edition Tour Posters!

Aug 05, 2008

Jack is back in North America and just kicked off the final leg of his Sleep Through The Static Tour in Toronto over the weekend. We are so excited to announce that we will be offering a very special limited edition poster that will be available in the merch area for each of the US stops (with the exception of festivals, 15 posters total!).

For the project we have enlisted the help from some of our favorite artists and designers to provide unique designs for each show.  The posters will be screenprinted on a quality 100% recycled stock and sold in numbered editions of 300. After each show we will be selling any leftover posters on our website so be sure to check back if you aren’t able to pick one up at the show of your choice! A handful of the posters will be signed by the artist and sold here on our website. At the end of the tour we will be auctioning off a FULL SET of SIGNED posters (details to come soon).

This week’s designs include 2 designs by Dave Lively and Jeff Motch (Aug 6, Manfield MA and Aug 7 Camden, NJ).

Check back weekly for updates on the artists to peep some more of the incredible designs that have been developed for this series.
