August 12th marked the Turnaround Arts Hawai’i Regional Launch for Hawaii schools Kalihi Kai Elementary School, Wai`anae Elementary School and Kamaile Academy PCS.

Jack joined fellow Turnaround Artists, musician Jake Shimabukuro and actress Alfre Woodard for the kickoff of Turnaround Arts Hawaii to meet with the students, teachers and principals. Each Turnaround Artist will work directly with students and teachers to support their arts education. All schools participating in Turnaround Arts will receive training and resources to address their individual needs. Resources will include a summer leadership program, in-school professional development, partnerships with community arts education and cultural organizations, art supplies, and musical instruments.

“My love of music started as a kid strumming the ukulele in an elementary classroom,” said Jack Johnson. “By serving as a Turnaround Artist for Hawai'i, I'm excited to bring music and ideas to the students of Kamaile Academy and Waianae Elementary School. I hope to inspire the kids to dream big and help to create an environment of joy and possibility in their classrooms."

Thank you to all the students for welcoming Jack to your schools and we hope the new school year is off to a great start!
