Just released via Jack’s newsletter:

“Constellation TV, The Fledgling Fund & Docudrama are pleased to announce 4 special screenings of the documentary, “Bag It”. Beginning November 20th for 4 weeks, a special Sunday series of event screenings will take place on Constellation, a new online movie theater platform.

On November 27th at 5:30 PST/ 8:30 EST, Jack and his wife Kim, co-founders of Kokua Hawai’i Foundation, will host a live Q&A following the online screening of “Bag it”.

Tickets are $4.99 at http://www.constellation.tv/bagit
November 27th screening proceeds will support Kokua Hawai’i Foundation.”

How awesome is this? I’ve already reserved my ticket. Firstly, I’ve been wanting to see the movie. Secondly, the idea of having an online movie theatre (Constellation TV) is incredibly brilliant and I’m a little embarrassed I haven’t heard of it before. Lastly, I’m excited to hear what Jack and Kim have to say about the movie, the way they try to be sustainable, etc. I hope to virtually see some of you there!

I am going to try to do this, but my computer is so old and slow, I’m not sure it will keep up with a movie!

I don’t know if any of you ever go to Kanu Hawaii, but it’s been talked about on there for quite a while.  It was on youtube also, but that link has since been taken down due to copyright issues I am sure.

Anyway, I am hoping to see it, but definitely come back here and talk about it!

Yeah, not sure how many of you attended…I did see Dan there. It was a great movie. It had the right amount of comic relief, but for the most part, it was a movie that really opened my eyes and exposed the sad, disgusting truth. Some of the facts I did know about plastic: the gyres, shipping our recycling to China, etc., but a lot I didn’t. I found that the most interesting part was when Jeb tested himself for plastic and toxicities in his body while eating right and being cautious, and then again while using supposedly “safe” BABY products! The results skyrocketed. Really shocking. I don’t have kids yet, but when I do, you can guarantee I’m going to be super careful. And, for any educators out there, there’s a 4th grade and up version of the movie, along with curriculum and lesson plan ideas, available for purchase (I believe) through their website.

Also, the chat was awesome. Kim and Jack had a webcam and answered questions for about 30 or so minutes after the movie. It was cute! Jack told a few funny stories. One was about his kid and his kid’s best friend fighting over a play-dough shaped turd one Christmas. After the story, Kim looked at him and said, “Um. I’m not sure why Jack just shared that and what that has to do with anything, but…” Ha! Anyway, they didn’t answer any questions about Jack’s music, or anything not related to living sustainable life, which is great. I was actually a little worried people would get on there and just ask Jack, “Any plans for a tour?” “What about a new CD?” etc. Anyway, I realize I’m rambling, but it was a really cool experience. Well worth the $5, and I hope they do something like this again.

Also, just found this Youtube video of the start of the Q&A. Jack sings a song about reducing your impact. It’s cute!

very nice, Courtney. i couldn’t be there, but i can see it was a good experience. let’s hope they do it again. i have to say that i liked this part of what you wrote: “it was a movie that really opened my eyes and exposed the sad, disgusting truth”. one of the things i have learned in my life is that the more i know, the more i see how ridiculous and rotten we are.

For sure, Cassio. I feel the same way after watching documentaries like Food, Inc., Bag It, and The Cove. All of them make me stop and think how absolutely repulsive the human race is.  We are so egotistical that we don’t stop and question how our actions are affecting those around us (the ocean, honey bees, soil, trees, our future children, etc). Ridiculous and disgusting. Of course, we DO have a few great leaders out there that are trying to change the way we think and act. I’m always reminded of the All At Once mission statement: An individual action, multiplied by millions, creates global change. We CAN impact the world positively, but dammit, we have a long way to go. Anyway, hope you can catch the film sometime; I know you’d like it.

The Q&A afterward alone was worth the $5.  Already bought my copy of the movie and plan on making everyone I know watch it because it really was eye opening…there is 40x more plastic in the ocean than plankton, just sad

it’s a really long way. fortunately, there are people who care more about the world and less about the money (probably our biggest problem).
