It was a busy week at Brushfire's Los Angeles headquarters. Jack was in the studio, The Solar Powered Plastic Plant, finishing the final touches on a live project that will be announced soon! The label's newest signing, Bahamas, was also in town from Toronto playing some intimate shows and gearing up for the February 7th release of his album Barchords.
Here's a sweet little Valentine's Day present just for you; a free download of "Turn Your Love", live from Berkeley, California, featuring special guests Paula Fuga and Lebo of ALO.
Our friends at Rebel Waltz Films recently released their new film, EL MAR, Mi ALMA. For the soundtrack Jack collaborated on a song composed by Manuel Garcia featuring verses from the poem "Farewell" by Pablo Neruda. The song is bilingual, Manuel joined by Silvia Thom'as singing verses in Spanish, Jack joined by Paula Fuga singing verses in English. A harmonious waltz made just for the film.
EL MAR, Mi ALMA premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival this past week with one final screening, scheduled for this Friday, Feb. 3rd, 4:20 PM at the Metro 4 Theatre II.
About EL MAR, Mi ALMA:
"Filmed on location in Chile by renowned photographer/cinematographer Dave Homcy, EL MAR, Mi ALMA captures the essence of a unique coastal road trip and surfing journey by Dave Rastovich and his NGO, Surfers for Cetaceans. They are joined along the way by some of the world's top pros and local Chilean surfers Ramon Navarro, Dane Ward, Crystal Thornburg-Homcy, Chris del Moro, Joel Parkinson, Cristian Merello, Leo Acevedo and Diego Medina. As the film travels on a unique surf journey, it paints a picture of Chile's beauty and close association with the sea. The film also features an original soundtrack by Chilean folk artist Manuel Garcia."

Back home in Hawaii, Jack visited his alma mater, Kahuku High and Intermediate School, where the students kicked off the new year with a Sustainability Assembly to announce their new greening initiatives. Jack sang a few songs, spoke about the Kokua Hawaii Foundation's 3R's and Plastic Free programs, and congratulated the students on their work.
On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, Jack joined Captain Charles Moore, founder of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation who wrote the book "Plastic Ocean", along with 274 volunteers who came out and collected 3,672 pounds of trash from James Campbell Wildlife Refuge at Kahuku Beach. Thank you to Sustainable Coastlines Hawai'i, BYU Hawaii, Kahuku High and Intermediate School and the Kokua Hawaii Foundation for hosting and to all the volunteers for your hard work. Check out this video created by OiwiTV highlighting the event!
