Jack Johnson joins Brian Hiatt at The Rolling Stone Studio live at ‪@SXSW‬, presented by ‪@jbl‬, to talk about his new documentary ‘SURFILMUSIC,’ the birth of his music career, early influences (including Fugazi!), why he’s not nearly as mellow as he seems, and much more.

Johnson’s new film started as a project to finally get his old surf movies online and became a documentary tracing his path from surfer to filmmaker to musician. In the film, he digs through four-track tapes from his dorm room, revisits the surfing accident that left him hiding out with a guitar, and reflects on his decades-long love story with his wife. ‘SURFILMUSIC’ premiered at SXSW, and Johnson also has a tour scheduled for this summer.
