Hōkūle’a and the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage

Hawaiʻi's voyaging canoe, Hōkūle'a, is travelling around the world to create global relationships and explore how to care for our oceans and Island Earth. The Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyageis a 47,000-mile ocean journey to find and grow inspiring efforts to protect our earth for future generations. Spanning 85 ports, 26 countries, and 12 Marine World Heritage Sites, Hōkūleʻa’s latest and most ambitious voyage will continue through 2017.

The education program of the Worldwide Voyage aims to cultivate the next generation of courageous explorers and leaders. To guide the Hōkūle‘a, navigators use traditional wayfinding with stars, waves, wind and birds as mapping points for direction. Today, the crewmembers aboard Hōkūle'a are also helping to find and connect “earth’s great navigators”—the people of all ages and places that are planting seeds of hope for future generations. Goals of the voyage are to connect people around the world who are inspired by shared values and to bridge tradition and technology to solve problems in innovative ways.
