1% For The Planet Encourages You to Know Your Source
Every time we eat, we have a chance to make a difference. 1% For The Planet just launched a new campaign, “Know Your Source,” which calls for consumers to pledge to join 1% businesses, non-profits and ambassadors, in their quest for ingredient awareness and better business practices. Jack, together with All At Once and the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, are teaming up to support this new campaign which aims to raise awareness about food as an environmental issue, with a focus on knowing how food gets to your plate.
The pledge includes a commitment to cut your food’s commute. A typical meal travels more than 1,500 miles before landing on your plate. Fewer transportation emissions means food will be fresher and local farmers will be supported. From 2007 to 2012, the number of food hubs—local groups that connect farmers to food-using businesses—increased 288%.
