Jack joined friends from the Rob Machado Foundation and I Love a Clean San Diego to clean the beach at Seaside Reef last Saturday, and then took part in an impromptu jam session for all the kids and volunteers, in celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day

Single-use plastics like bottles, lids, bags, and straws make the Top 10 list of items washed up on beaches each year. It’s important to clean the beach, but a more sustainable solution is to reduce disposable plastics at the source. A great example is Surfrider San Diego’s Ocean Friendly Restaurants program.

After the clean-up, Jack made a stop at Beach Plum Kitchen, a certified Ocean Friendly Restaurant which has made a commitment to reduce plastics, including elimination of styrofoam and plastic carryout bags, and only reusable tableware onsite. Special thanks to Surfrider and to all of the certified businesses who have made it a priority to reduce plastic waste… one restaurant at a time!
