Plastic-Free July is an annual event that began in Western Australia in 2011 and has spread across the globe. It aims to raise awareness of the amount of plastic in our lives by encouraging people to eliminate the use of single-use, disposable plastic during July each year. In celebration of Plastic Free July, Ecology Center, an All At Once Non-Profit Partner in Berkeley, California, is hosting a Shoreline Clean-Up on July 19th…a pair of Jack Johnson tickets will be given away to a lucky participant! The From Here To Now To You Tour has created partnerships with over 150 All At Once Non-Profit Partners around the world. More than 50 of these partners are raising awareness about solutions to plastic pollution and engaging volunteers in marine debris & watershed clean-ups including the Plastic Soup Foundation in Holland, Aragua in Brazil, Take 3 in Australia,Sustainable Coastlines in New Zealand, and Cafeteria Culture in New York. In addition to supporting plastic free initiatives through the All At Once community, the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation recently awarded grants to several exciting educational programs; the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Ocean Plastic Pollution Summit for Teachers designed to motivate teachers to engage their students with plastic-free action projects and Algalita Marine Research Institute’s 2015 Plastic Ocean Pollution Youth Summit involving teachers and students in hands-on activities that strengthen student leadership and speaking skills and spark local action to reduce plastic pollution in the world’s oceans.
